Changes to the opening hours at Brill and Long Crendon surgeries

After consulting with our Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and our Patient Participation Group (PPG), we have made a decision to close the Brill and Long Crendon surgeries one afternoon a week starting from 1st March 2019.  Brill Surgery will be closed on Thursday afternoons and the Long Crendon surgery will be closed on Tuesday afternoons (Wednesdays from 13th May). The days were chosen after advice from our PPG who felt that Monday was the busiest day, so we should not be closed then and Friday afternoon was helpful for patients wanting to collect medication before the weekend. We will continue to offer a service to all our patients on those afternoons at our other surgeries, which will be open as usual. There are several reasons why we have had to make the decision to do this.

Since merging in October 2017, we now have 21,500 patients across five surgeries, and we are finding it more difficult to provide the complete service that we would like to, across all the five sites every day. We are currently spreading our resources very thinly which means staff can feel isolated clinically; this is made worse by the national shortage of GPs and practice nurses and as a result we are currently finding it difficult to recruit both doctors and nurses.

Most practices that have more than one site often only operate a much reduced service at sites other than the main one.  As you might already know, our Princes Risborough surgery has always closed on Wednesday afternoons and the Chinnor surgery on Tuesday afternoons.

Since the merger, we have continued to keep the Brill and Long Crendon surgeries open all day, but on some days, have had no GP or nurse available at those sites.  We feel that it is best to close the surgery, rather than have the surgery open with no clinical staff available.

If you were to make a phone call to the surgeries when they are closed for the afternoon, you will be asked to call one of our other surgeries, where the receptionist will be able to help you make appointments, leave messages for the GPs and nurses etc.

We will publicise these changes in the surgeries and via the text messaging service, to ensure that as many patients know about the changes before the 1st March.
